As we said earlier in the blog, there is simply no way to remove the mosquito population completely from your backyard. However, there are a few things you can do to prevent the population from growing out of control. One of the first is to try to always remove or drain all standing water (your pool is not included in this). For example, sometimes families have small kiddie pools they fill up with a water hose, let the kids play, and then leave the pool. This is strongly discouraged as this standing water will eventually become a breeding site for mosquitos. However, mosquitos can also breed in clogged rain gutters, potholes, old tires, and things like tree holes. If at all possible, treat these sites that are cool, dark, and possibly wet in order to reduce the number of breeding sites in your backyard. Some homes have ponds or water gardens installed for landscaping purposes. These are obvious breeding grounds for mosquitos and so one way you can prevent mosquitoes from breeding is to consistently remove algae from the pond. The other defense mechanism that one can use in their pond is to put a mosquito control ring in their pond. These rings contain the natural bacteria that kill mosquito larvae for 30 days! These steps are simple steps that can help reduce the number of mosquitos you have in your backyard living space.
Of course, these steps require a good amount of work as they must happen consistently and to be honest will help only just a little in reducing mosquitoes.
