Fall Landscaping Tips

The temperatures are finally cooling in Houston, and within the next few months we will see our city’s version of fall. This means that some changes should be made to your landscaping in order to prepare. Changes in the weather can have a great effect on your lawn. Here are our fall landscaping tips, from your trusted local Houston pool builder and landscape company.

What To Do

Pull weeds

It’s time to take care of the overgrowth in your plant beds. If you take care of it now, you’ll have much less to do come springtime.

Fertilize

Starting in September is a good time to fertilize your grass. If you would like to avoid dead grass, start now. Fall is the perfect time to tend to your yard after all of the summer weather. Pay special attention to any bare spots in your lawn. You can also lay down some more mulch at this time to discourage weeds from growing.

Prune

As the flower buds start to fall off your plants, it’s easier to see what parts need pruning. Take stock of your trees and look for any dead growth. Properly pruned trees are better at combating cold weather.

Water

In Houston, we know how rainy it can get. The summer or winter time can be full of rain. However, it’s important to monitor this in the cold months as things get drier. Be sure to properly water your plants and trees for optimal root growth.

Rake leaves

If you have trees in your yard that lose their leaves, be sure to keep up the raking. Dead leaves can cause problems for grass after too long. They can also block grass from getting essential water.
