When planting a garden or flowerbed, one obviously looks for beauty, but another important point to consider is how will your flowers do when Houston enters into the hot and humid portion of the summer. One of the worst things that can happen is your purchase and plant beautiful flowers only for them to last a week or two. That is why 3D Pools and Landscape wanted to give you a list and small description of 10 of the prettiest native flowers in Houston! These flowers will give you your best chance for a beautiful flower bed that lasts!

The first flower is the Eastern Purple Coneflower. These are stunning purple petal flowers that do incredibly well in the Houston Spring and Summer! They are butterfly magnets and do very well when it’s time to cut down a flower so that more grow! This purple flower is a great option for your Houston flower bed!

The second flower is the Texas Lantana flower! This orange and yellow flower is exquisite and does incredibly well in areas where droughts can occur! These flowers bloom all summer long and are sure to catch the eye of your neighbors and friends.

The third flower actually blooms on a shrub and is called Red Turk’s Cap. These shrubs are a beautiful mixture of shrubs and small flowers that tend to do better in shade! These can be great in your flower bed or even planted next to your tree trunks.

The fourth flower is a perennial named Autumn Sage. These red blooms love the sun and are sturdy flowers that are great for not only your yard but for the attraction of hummingbirds!

The fifth flower is the Texas Olive Blossoms. These soft-white and yellow center flowers grow on olive trees and have such beautiful wide petals and are stunning to look at! While the fruit produced is not tasty, who wouldn’t mind a beautiful tree that also produces stunning flowers?

The sixth flower will remind you of a cat and is called the Cat Tail Liatris. These beautiful, tall, and long purple flowers look just like a cattail! They are perennials and can grow to be 3-5 feet tall!

The seventh flowers are Gulf Coast Penstemon. These beautiful purple, daffodil similar wildflowers produce multiple blossoms on each stem flower from spring to fall and are also excellent hummingbird attractors.

The eighth flower is one of the most beautiful in Texas and is the Hinckley Columbine. This yellow perennial blooms during the cooler times of spring and fall. These gorgeous flowers are kind of tall and decently sturdy. They are exquisite and are sure to be a focal point of any garden.

The ninth flower is the Calylophus or the sun drop flower. This yellow flower is similar to a pansy and they typically bloom all summer long!

The tenth and final flower comes on another tree, the Mexican Plum Tree produces beautiful flowers that eventually become fruit! These plums are great to eat or make into jam but before they become fruit they are a beautiful white flower that blooms all over the tree.
